Plastics Color Delivery Providing Consistency

Color is everywhere. It is an important aspect of our daily lives. The control of color varies in its precision from very little control to highly sophisticated systems. In an age where many objects are manufactured at separate locations and then assembled into a product elsewhere color control is critical.

Another topic will be how statistics and more specifically how control charting and SPC can be used to control consistency. We will discuss the nature of color, how we perceive it and steps we can take to create optimal conditions for visual color evaluation. We will explore instrumental color evaluations and the benefits of different color matching formula and the advantages of each. Color delivery in the coatings industry has changed over the last 20 years. Paint colored in the factory once a staple of the paint store is now rare. Color is delivered on demand through automated color dispensers. This has brought new challenges to provide consistent color to the consumer.

At the conclusion of the 60-minute presentation segment, there will be a 30-minute open question and answer period, for attendee questions and problem solving.

Outline
  • Introduction
  • Characteristics of color and it's perception
  • Achieving Consistent Visual Color Assessment
  • Instrumental Color Assessment
  • Sample Preparation
  • Selection of Color Difference Formula
  • Control Charts and Capability indexes
    • Managing color process
    • Managing Raw Materials and Vendors

HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT:
  1. Learn the fundamental process how color is perceived and how the components of color contribute to color perception.
  2. Develop an understanding how the viewing environment affects color perception and how to create an optimal environment.
  3. Understand of the how to prepare samples for instrumental color measurement and the benefits of different color measurement metrics.
  4. Explore the use of SPC and capability indexes in the control of color and qualification of products and vendors.
  5. Automated Color Tinting: how to evaluate tinting machines and how to manage an in-store tinting program for the most reliable and consistent performance.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND AND WHY?

The knowledge gained by participants will help them understand color perception and the factors that impact its consistency, as well as how to make smarter choices in establishing a viewing environment and sample preparation for consistent color assessment. You will be able to evaluate color performance beyond Pass/Fail metrics, and how the use of statistical techniques can improve color consistency.

This course is designed primarily for individuals involved in the assessment of color. Individuals managing color programs such as in-store (DIY) color systems, or the management of color design and control laboratories. It is targeted to engineers, scientists, technicians and managers responsible for specifying, selecting, and using coloring materials such as pigments or dyes. The course should also benefit marketing development, technical sales, and procurement and service personnel concerned with color and its impact in of products. If you are contemplating new color products, establishing color management programs, training personnel in the aspects of color and the impact on their responsibilities course should prove profitable.

Attendees will come away with all the tools needed to make good decisions relative to color assessment and color management. This will lead to products that are of more consistent quality, better in appearance, and with lower manufacturing costs.

Price: $465.00
