How to approach REACH & obtain compliance. This e-Training course adds new insights from the past year since the regulation entered into force and since the ECHA has been established. It is supplying new facts that support the decision processes on how to approach REACH & what steps are necessary to obtain compliance.

It will focus around the specific needs & responsibilities of the industry sectors Coatings & Inks - Polymers - Cosmetics & Toiletries and will highlight where the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the REACH Implementation Projects (RIPs) have brought further clarification esp. towards these sectors. Also outlined are actual activities of the European industry associations in order to support their member companies within the REACH processes. This course will include a brief summary on the basic principles of REACH, with special emphasis on the targeted sector industries.

REACH STATUS: A FEW WEEKS TO THE START OF PRE-REGISTRATION!!!

On June 1st, 2008 the European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki/Finland will be fully operational and the need to register with the Agency comes into force.

REACH, the new EU Regulatory Framework for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization & Restriction of Chemicals entered into force on June 1, 2007.

The time until today was used to establish the ECHA.

The Commission and the ECHA reviewed various annexes of the Regulation and implemented legislation for, e.g., agency fees, etc.

Guidance documents for the industry, which are based on the work in REACH Implementation Projects (RIP), were published on the ECHA website.

The EU member states brought into force necessary laws, regulations and administrative provisions to comply with the REACH Directive.

Other European institutions validated new, alternative test methods or developed IT tools for the REACH processes.

June 1st 2008 marks also the start of the pre-registration for phase-in chemicals - the pre-registration period is from June 1st - November 30th, 2008.

About the Instructor
Since 2003, Annelie Struessmann is Technical & Regulatory Director with CONUS Business, Advice & Training, a provider of internationalization services for the Life Science Industries: www.conusbat.com.
With responsibility for the areas Cosmetic / Personal Care, Fragrances, Food & Nutrition, Pharmaceuticals, she possesses more than 20 years of industry experiences in Technical Marketing, Application, R&D, Regulatory Affairs and Product Safety. Previous to CONUSBAT, she worked in various managerial functions with global companies at international locations, such as: International Flavors & Fragrances in the Netherlands, Akzo Nobel Chemicals in the USA & Germany, Rewo Chemicals & DHW Deutsche Hydrierwerke GmbH Rodleben in Germany.
Her educational background includes a Masters Degree in Chemistry & a BS in Food Chemistry from the Technical University RWTH Aachen, Germany. In addition, she received a Doctorate in Biopolymer Chemistry from the German Wool Research Institute (DWI) in Aachen, based on her work in Human Hair Science. She continued her research with the DWI for appr. 5 years, working on projects for Schwarzkopf/Germany & Clairol/Stamford-USA. From Clairol she was awarded the Company’s prestigious Gelb Foundation Fellowship.
